The Trouble Is You Think You Have Time
The most important thing to me is my ability to be present. Think about it! If the whole world was blind how many people would you impress? I constantly consider this upon any and every interaction. Of course, I'm not perfect. I have my days, but in the long run I do try my hardest to be the best version of myself that I can be. With that in mind, I was adamant about making senior year the best that it could possibly be.
This year, it was a goal of mine to make my time left in this chapter of my life the best that it could be. It was bittersweet noticing all the lasts of the year and of my high school career. The last football game... getting ready with all of my friends at one of our houses, decking ourselves out in accordance with the theme of the night, then rushing to the game to make it there at an hour and a half early to tailgate, then assemble ourselves at the front of the student section. We would cheer so loud and so long so that our voices were gone the next morning. Cookout after the games to celebrate the losses (every. single. game.). This tradition has been a consistent one all of high school and It is bittersweet to be letting go of it. As high school comes to a close, I am reminiscing on the ups and the downs. IB has brought many more downs than ups, but the amazing friendships and activities I have been able to do outside of school is what keeps me going. Highschool, though challenging in many ways, has taught me numerous lessons.
#1- MAKE THE MOST OF EVERYTHING. I have gradually learned the importance of this. If you live your life looking forward to the weekend, or spring break, or summer, you will never be fully satisfied. I have learned to cherish small occurrences in my life to fulfill me. I have made a point to spend each day as if it were my last. Time is not infinite and you never know when your life may come to an end. Therefore, go to ice cream on a Monday night. Sleepover with that friend, even though you want to go sleep in your own bed. Go out with friends. Stay in and watch movies with your parents. Do some yoga on a Wednesday. Anything to make the most of the day you are given, regardless of what others want or do, DO YOU.
#2- BE YOURSELF. no one cares what you look like. no one cares what you're wearing. no one cares if you have the newest this and that. The authenticity and vulnerability of being different from the basic high school norm is rare to find and people are drawn to unique individuals.
#3- ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. Though sometimes even I can admit some occurrences feel as though my life is over, its just not. Breath. Life isn't perfect. It doesn't matter as much as you think it does in the moment. You will forget. People will forget. The sun will come up again tomorrow and its a new day.

Song of Myself #46 "Not I, not any one else can travel that road for you, You must travel it for yourself."
As we transition into this new chapter of our lives, we are going to have to be independent for ourselves. The people I have known since birth will be on their own paths of life and we will have to learn to do things that we have not done before, in a new environment, with new people. Up until this point in my life, I have lived with my parents in a nice neighborhood with lakes and a swim team in Raleigh, NC. I grew up with all boys playing football before and after school. As I got older, I began taking soccer more and more seriously, and was at the highest level for a majority of my life. I go to school and work. My life has been pretty simple. But that all is going to change. I am going to travel alone on my own path on the journey of life.
